Crunchy Granola

Ingredients:
3 cups rolled oats
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch or two of sea salt
1/2 cup of  your favorite cooking oil (coconut, olive, sunflower etc..)
1/4 cup dark brown sugar * see modification note bellow
3/4 cup chopped almonds
1/4 sunflower seeds
1/4 cup flax seeds
1/2 cup shredded coconut
1/2 raisins
1/4 hemp seeds

Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl combine oats, sunflower seeds, and almonds.
In a measuring cup mix, oil, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Add the wet to the dry and combine well.

Spread mixture out in a large pan.

Bake for about 20 mins. stir and bake again for another 10.
Remove from oven and add raisins, hemp and flax seeds and coconut,
and allow to cool. It will get crunchy when it cools.

Store in a jar. Eat as often as desired! serve with fresh fruit and yogurt or yummy almond milk!

*Modification:
Originally this recipe called for a dry sweetener and so I used dark brown sugar. The granola was tasty as anything, but over this last week my mind has continually wandered back to the recipe wondering WHY a dry sweetener? Would it not be crunchy? hmm... well I had to try so yesterday I made another batch but this time I used a WET sweetener...

instead of 1/4 cup of brown sugar I used a combo of raw agave and maple syrup, a little over 1/4 cup. because of the wet vs. dry factor, I baked the granola a little longer, maybe 5- 8 minutes more. I checked on it frequently, 'cause there's nothing worse than staring your day with burnt granola!

  1. Love the simplicity to the recipe...some of the store bought granola is too sweet. I will try this soon for sure!

  2. The recipe for the granola that we use all the time for Feeding the Whole Family has maple syrup and fruit juice in it and no dry sweetener at all and it super crunchy and great!
