I'm using my old computer for the next week. This is the computer I used when I was a practicing Wholistic Nutritionist, before children. I looked into my documents and found a lot of useful info and handouts I used to routinely give to my clients. I'll post a few just for olde tymes sake!...
Rules for practicing proper Food Combining
Proper food Combining is used to get the most nutrients out of your food, as well as building a strong digestive system. When a food or meal is properly digested or broken down there are no physical discomforts (bloating, gas, cramps, lethargy) after eating. Consider eating an apple alone. It only takes about 15 minutes to digest it. Now consider eating a steak alone. That should take up to 2 hours to properly digest. Now consider eating a n apple with a steak. Either the steak goes through the system partially undigested, or the apple stays around to ferment in the system. Neither the apple or steak has been properly digested, therefore the nutrients have not been absorbed into the system, which is the whole point of eating.
Here are the rules, I suggest taking on one or two at a time until they are mastered. Work at these at a pace that is comfortable to you.
1) Avoid eating simple carbs (breads, pastas, rice) with acidic fruits (tomatoes, pineapple, strawberry, kiwi and the citrus family)
2) Do not eat meats with fruits or starches. NO meat and potatoes, no steak and apples.
3) Do not eat different proteins at the same time. (meat and cheese)
4) Acid fruits may be eaten with sub acidic fruits ( pears, apples and grapes), but should not be mixed with sweet fruits (bananas and dried fruits)
5) Eating lettuce and celery with fruit (apple) will enhance the digestion of fruit and greens. (eat a salad with celery and apple)
6) Melons should always be eaten alone
7) Rice and beans combine well together to make a complete protein.
Don't drive yourself crazy, eating is supposed to be ENJOYABLE. Have fun.
