Its so much fun involving the kids in "kitchen work. Baking together is one of our favorite games.
I had a snack planned of moms banana muffins from her cookbook, a bowl of raw almonds and one of blueberries, oh and a salad for me!! While I was making my hempseed dressing my kiddo decided to make blueberry almonds! He was so proud and giving. He couldn't wait for us to try them and he kept making more until the bowls were empty! I don't think he realized how many blueberries or almonds he had eaten. I'm pretty sure the bowls wouldn't have emptied if he hadn't been so involved. I find this true again and again, whenever they are involved in the shopping and preparing of meals or snacks they are so much happier to eat! I love learning this lesson.
A word about modifications: Most recipes I make, I usually modify in some way. Im always trying to get the most nutrition possible, wherever possible. In the banana muffins I reduced the sugar, swapped regular wheat flower with whole spelt flour and added a large handful of hempseed hearts. Here's a tip, whenever I use whole spelt flour instead of white flour I always add a little extra baking soda, that is if the recipe is calling for baking soda in the first place! I find it makes the results lighter.
Modifying recipes is that simple, you can make anything healthier, YOUR the maker!
