Just because it was Sunday, Mom and Dad planned a special feast for the family tonight; A Southern Fried themed Meal. It was the ultimate comfort food, and wait 'till you see what was for dessert!...
Fried Chicken, Buttermilk biscuits, corn fritters and coleslaw served with pots of honey on the table!
And For dessert...

We took a little trip down memory lane. Mom found some "things" in the basement that she brought up for us to see. There were lots of old photographs, school work from grade 1 and 2 and paper memorabilia from the time just before we moved to where I now call home. What a trip...

I love how a meal can bring a family together. I have to say that although I learned a lot/most of my skills in the kitchen from my mother and maybe my passion and interest too, I realized that I have learned something far more important that I guess I'd always taken for granted. I have learned the importance of the "family table" and inherited the habit of gathering daily with my family to share a meal. Growing up, mom always made dinner, set the table, sometimes we helped, but we always sat there, together to eat every day. Each with our own spot in the circle. I have to hand it to Mom; we always had a home cooked meal. There were many occasions when "Dad was away on business," and still mom made dinner and called us to the table day after day, even during periods when she worked. I accepted those traditions as normal and have carried them in my family where each day I prepare the family meal and we all sit together, our own spot in the square to eat, share and be together. I can't thank Mom enough for teaching me that.
Now, if only I can get her to teach me how to make that delicious Boston Cream pie!.....
