Why you need to take an art class.

My first painting class was an art therapy, water color class. It was difficult to sign up for because I told myself that I wasn't a painter, and that I didn't know how. I grew up only 11 months behind my brother who was an amazing artist, evident from the first time a crayon was in his hands. Our drawings were incomparable and I soon became more interested In music.
The idea of this painting class, anyway I looked at it was uncomfortable, but worth a chance! I was mostly intrigued by the connection between art and therapy, and happy to be spending time with my friend who I was signing up with.
In retrospect, the class turned out to be a pivotal point in my life as an artist. I learned not so much about technique, or "how to", but about the process itself.
The "doing" and not the end product became most important. In the jewel tones of color I became aware of who I really am.
I had even painted the baby in my womb, with out even knowing yet that I actually was pregnant!
So much connection happens when you allow yourself to be vulnerable. You connect with yourself in a new way and you make special connections with those you share your creative explorations with.

We are all creative beings and we can all benefit from the profound effects of a creative outlet. Whether you are looking to try something new, develop a skill, play, connect with others or expand your practice, art is the road map!
