Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

When I was a young girl one of my favorite books was Cloudy with a chance of meatballs. Huh, I guess I have always been food obsessed! I adored the story line about a town who's food fell from the sky at breakfast, lunch and dinner. There were no grocery stores, but there was a restaurant- Ralfs roofless resturaunt! I used to imagine living in that town and dream of all the things that would fall from the sky for me like Strawberry ice cream snow, and hot grilled cheese sandwiches. Now as an adult it would rain fair trade chocolate, blow in costa rican winds of french pressed coffee every morning at 8am and 3pm with farm fresh raw milk. Then at 4pm smooth red wine and warm brie! A wholesome family dinner of course too! I love the book so much so, that when I had my own children I just had to find it. I only remembered th name of the book, not the author. Actually I still don't know that. But one day while wondering the little book shop up the street from my health food store, I found it! It was just how I remembered it and just as funny. And today it is one of my middle sons favorite books too! Imagine my surprise and enthusiasm when at the video store there waiting was a copy, well several copies of the movie Cloudy with a chance of meatballs!! We brought it home right away and watched it. At first it wasn't at all like the story, there were many changes and swirls. But We laughed and recognized snippets of the near exact illustrations in motion. The book wasn't nearly as bright or colourful as the movie, but I got over that quick especially when a little romance was thrown into the mix. Really you can't have a story about food without romance, they sort of go together like wine and cheese, or chocolate and peanut butter. Yumm!
