We Buried Their Placentas Under A Cherry Tree

I wish there was another word for placenta. It doesn't sound very nice, nor does it lend any tenderness, or spiritual element to the subject. Having all 3 of my babies at home in the winter time, meant after each birth we  put the Placenta in the freezer until spring when we could burry it under a tree. We'll that was the idea, 8, 5, and 2 springs ago!
I got a Cherry Tree for Mothers day this year and was planning a lovely tree planting ceremony for the Full Moon last week, which was held off due to rain. But with sunny  skies and warmth we decided to do it today. The boys worked hard shoveling a hole for "their tree" and when it was ready I fetched the large heavy bag of placentas from the freezer and brought it out. We all sat around the tree while I tried to explain what I was doing. There was nothing serious about it, we all laughed because the boys thought it was so disgusting, and my Eldest claimed he would never eat those Cherries. But, one day I certainly have a great story (and the pictures to go along with it) for them about how we honored that which bonded us and nourished them. It's spiritual!! Although I was quite glad to add some space in the otherwise tight freezer, I felt a little sad bringing them out. But now that the tree is in the ground, I feel we, the tree and the placentas are HOME.

  1. We have been planning on what sort of planting we wanted to do with the placentas here at our place.
With the third and final babe on his way he have been talking about this summer. Of course since we live in a rental we don't want to plant them here and are hoping to plant them at Paul's parents.
We have been talking about a fruit tree for each of them. Apple, pear and cherry!
